So, you’ve been bitten by the Doodle bug? You wouldn’t be the only one. There are thousands of dog lovers who have been captivated by this stunning cross breed which has enjoyed a very fast rise in fame. One of the many questions that people ask before adopting a Labradoodle is ‘how big do labradoodles get‘or how big is a ‘full-grown labradoodle‘?

Labradoodles also known as the ‘designer dogs’ are a cross between a Labrador and any of the three sizes of Poodle. Labradoodle puppies are very cute, so it’s important that you do your research. Decide exactly what type and size you want first and then pick a good breeder before you decide to view any puppies, as the sight of a litter of fluffy Labradoodle pups may well be too much to resist.

Labradoodle size varies across the breed, even within the same litter for some variable factors with Labradoodles. Australian Labradoodle breeders, particularly in Australia and the USA, are breeding multi generation Labradoodles and working towards a consistent breed standard. It is important to note, even with planned breeding, a miniature poodle and a small Labrador does not always result in the Labradoodle being miniature in size. The difference between each dog within this breed makes for a ‘one of a kind’ companion.

If you are after a particular size, always visit and consult with the breeder about what you’re looking for. No responsible breeder can guarantee that their Labradoodle puppies will definitely grow to be an exact size. But they can offer information on the parents’ physical background, which will give you a rough guide on how large your puppy will be as an adult.

How Big is a Full-Grown Labradoodle?

Depending on the size of the Poodle parent used for the first-generation breeding, labradoodles come in three size variations. The three sizes are Standard, Medium, and Miniature.

According to the AKC breed standard, the size of a Labradoodle fully grown can range between 35-24 cm or 14-24 inches tall and 7-29 kg or 15-65 lbs in weight. Here are more details on the Miniature, Medium and Standard sizes:

Full Grown Standard Labradoodle Size

If either of your Labradoodle’s parents were a standard size Poodle, then the result will be a larger variation of Labradoodle.

The size of an adult standard size Poodle is between 45-60 cm (at the withers). The size of an adult Labrador can be anywhere from 55-62 cm tall. From these figures the size of a full-grown standard Labradoodle varies from 53-63 cm or 21-25 inches tall. To be more specific, the standard Labradoodle females are generally 53-58 cm or 21-23 inches, while the males fall between 56-61 cm or 22-24 inches tall.

The weight of a full-grown standard Labradoodle, with a standard Poodle parent can vary from 23-30 kg or 51-66 lbs.

Full Grown Medium Labradoodle Size

Medium Labradoodles are the result of breeding a medium sized Poodle and a Labrador. The majority of this breed when fully grown will measure 43-52 cm or 17-20 inches tall. The males of this breed tend to be on the taller end of the scale ranging from 46-52 cm or 18-20 inches tall whereas females are 43-48 cm or 17 to 19 inches tall.

Very true to its name, this is a medium sized dog that can range from 13-20 kg or 29-44 lbs. This variation of the Labradoodle breed can still be the perfect lap dog but also a great companion for a morning walk or a game of throw and catch.

Full Grown Miniature Labradoodle Size

The miniature sized Labradoodle is one of the most sought-after breeds. Loved for its hypoallergenic fur but also the fact it is miniature in size. This variation of the Labradoodle breed is the result of a Labrador and either a ‘toy’ or ‘miniature’ Poodle. When fully grown, a miniature Labradoodle will measure 35-42 cm or 14-16 inches high (at the wither).

In terms of weight, these dogs will should be no heavier than 13 kg or 28 lbs . When fully grown they will weigh between 7-13 kg or 15-28 lbs.

How Big Do Mini Labradoodles Get?

A Mini Labradoodle is a designer cross breed with a Labrador and a Miniature Poodle parent. Don’t let the word ‘Mini’ fool you. One of the most surprising things about buying a small Labradoodle is that they won’t necessarily be “mini”. Within any given litter there will inevitably be a huge variance in size. Different pups will take after different parents, and some will land somewhere in the middle.

Mini Labradoodle Full Grown Size

Height

The smallest version of a Mini Labradoodle ranks between 35-40 cm or 14-16 inches at the shoulders.

But if the Mini Labradoodle takes after its Labrador mom or dad, then in that case, you’ve got a medium-sized dog at 43-51 cm or 17-20 inches at the shoulders. Mini Labradoodles can also get as big as 53-61 cm or 21-24 inches if there is a lot of Labrador genes mixed in it.

Weight

A smaller Mini Labradoodle will be between 7-11 kg or 15-24 lbs.

A lager Mini Labradoodle will weigh between 22-29 kg or 50-65 lbs.

It’s very tricky to determine how big your Mini Labradoodle will get when it’s a puppy.

How Big Do Australian Labradoodles Get?

So, what’s the difference between an Australian Labradoodle and a Labradoodle?

A Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador and any of the three sizes of Poodle. All of its heritage can be traced back to these two breeds. A Labradoodle can be F1, F2, F3, multigeneration, etc. but it will only have Labrador and Poodle genes.

On the other hand, an Australian Labradoodle is slightly different. An Australian Labradoodle also has DNA from other dogs. The early Labrador-Poodle crosses in Australia produced large dogs, but they were often stubborn and willful with high energy levels.

According to ALA, the standard sizes of Full-grown Australian Labradoodles are:

Standard Australian Labradoodle Size

Height at wither: 53 cm to 63 cm ( 21 to 25 inches ).

Weight: 23 kg to 30 kg (51 to 66 lbs).

The ideal size for the female is 53 to 58 cm or 21 to 23 inches and the male is 56 to 61 cm or 22 to 24 inches.

Medium Australian Labradoodle Size

Height at wither: 43 cm to 52 cm (17 to 20 inches).

Weight: 13 kg to 20 kg (29 to 44 lbs).

The ideal size for the female is 43 to 48 cm or 17 to 19 inches and the male is 46 to 51 cm or 18 to 20 inches.

Miniature Australian Labradoodle Size

Height at wither: 35 cm to 42 cm (14 to 16 inches).

Weight: 7 kg to 13 kg (15 to 28 lbs).

Labradoodle f1b Size

F1, F1b, F2, etc. are genetic terms to refer how two breeds of Labrador and Poodle were crossed.

An F1 (or first generation) is a Poodle bred to a Labrador Retriever. The resulting puppies are 50% Poodle and 50% Labrador.

50%Lab + 50%Poodle = F1 Labradoodle

An F1b is also referred to as a Backcross. In this case, an F1 is bred back to a Poodle. The puppies are 75% Poodle and 25% Labrador.

25%Lab + 75%Poodle = F1B Labradoodle

It is really hard to tell which gene the F1B puppy will inherit. So, any of the above will apply to F1B Labradoodles.
