Sabrent's Latest External SSD Drive Features 16TB of Storage | PCMag

If you need lots of external storage, Sabrent has created a portable SSD drive that features a whopping 16TB capacity.

The Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 16GB External SSD is about the size of a power bank that you can fit in a pocket. And it’s able to hold so much memory, thanks to two 8TB NVME SSDs inside.

You can store your files on the SSDs individually for speeds at up to 1400 MB/s. Or you can run them in a RAID 0 or RAID 1 configuration via the company’s software. The RAID 0 mode will write the data to both drives concurrently at speeds up to 2800 MB/s. RAID 1, on the other hand, will write the data on one drive, and create a backup copy on the second.

The External SSD Drive

To transfer the data from the drive to the PC, the external SSD comes with a Thunderbolt 3 port. But on the downside, the product has to be run with the included power charger. So it’s not as portable as you might think.

All that storage also comes at a hefty price. Sabrent is selling the SSD drive on Amazon for $2,899. The product doubles the capacity found in last year’s 8GB external SSD from Sabrent, which retails for $1,399.

The 16TB drive itself comes in an aluminum case that measures in at 4.5 inches long, and 0.68 inches thick. For added protection, Sabrent fit the hardware in a rubber case. The product is compatible with both Windows PCs and Macs.

In addition, Sabrent is selling a second version that includes no memory. Instead, you can pick and choose your own NVME SSDs, and slot two of them inside. The Sabrent Thunderbolt 3 to Dual NVMe M.2 SSD Tool-Free Enclosure is retailing for $149.
